About the role

Education Programme Manager - Agenda for Change Band 6 full time (37.5 hours per week), permanent contract

Health Education England, Thames Valley is responsible for the planning, development, education and training of the healthcare and public health workforce across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire including supporting postgraduate medical and dental education and training for over 2,000 trainees. Based in Oxford, we are seeking to fill this new post within the postgraduate medical education and training team.

We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who can demonstrate the key values of the NHS Constitution, to support the dental and medical specialities.

Applicants role will include managing the Dental Foundation and Dental Therapist Training programmes from induction to completion of programme.  Aswell as a number of medical specialities which involves: organising trainer recruitment; attending national trainee recruitment events; documenting procedures and supporting Education Programme Coordinators/Officers; Postgraduate Centre Administrators, Training Programme Directors and Associate Deans amongst other stakeholders. You will be conversant with Word and Excel packages and engage with learning new software packages.

Applicants must be able to:

  • Work with a highly professional, with a customer-centred approach, performing well under pressure, whilst adapting to changing requirements and with a track record of achieving objectives and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrate confident communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Quickly establish credibility with senior medical educational leads across NHS organisations in Thames Valley and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of colleagues; deal with difficult situations and handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Demonstrate excellent report writing and analytical skills and the ability to understand and interpret training regulations, assessment systems and processes.
  • Approach challenges constructively finding creative ways forward, working with enthusiasm, flexibility and perseverance.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in other local offices across the South region

A thorough knowledge of medical education is essential and experience in medical HR, HR or a learning environment would be an advantage.   Highly organised, skilled in prioritisation and with an attention to detail, you will work closely with senior educator leads and the rest of the PGME team, as well as with a range of external bodies including NHS Trusts and the Medical Royal Colleges.

This role is an opportunity to help develop  systems and processes to support medical education and training working within a busy, challenging but rewarding environment. You will need to demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a peer group of other Programme Managers as well as with the wider PGME team delivering a consistently high standard of work to tight deadlines.
